Is it worth seeing a counsellor during fertility treatment, or is that only for serious problems?

I've been feeling overwhelmed with tests and appointments. My doctor mentioned a counsellor, but I feel like I should be able to handle this on my own.

Seeing a counsellor isn't a sign of weakness or that something is seriously wrong. Fertility treatment involves uncertainty, hormonal medicines, financial pressure and repeated waiting, and many people find it one of the most stressful experiences of their lives. Support is meant for exactly this. A counsellor, ideally one familiar with fertility issues, can help with: - Managing anxiety around tests, procedures and results. - Making difficult decisions, such as how many cycles to try or when to take a break. - Communication between partners, who often cope in different ways. - Handling family questions and social pressure. - Processing grief after unsuccessful cycles or loss. Under Indian law, ART clinics are expected to offer counselling, so it's reasonable to ask your clinic what's available. Sessions can be individual or as a couple, and online sessions are an option if travel is difficult. You don't have to wait until things feel unbearable. If you notice persistent low mood, panic, trouble sleeping for weeks, losing interest in daily life, or any thoughts of self-harm, please see a doctor promptly or contact a mental-health helpline for urgent support.
