Why do I feel jealous and upset when friends announce their pregnancies?

Tanvi5h ago

My cousin and two close friends announced pregnancies this month. I'm happy for them but I cried after each one and now I feel like a terrible person.

You are not a terrible person. Feeling sadness, envy or even anger when others announce a pregnancy is one of the most common experiences for people trying to conceive, and it usually sits right alongside genuine happiness for them. Both feelings can be true at once. These moments hurt because they remind you of what you're longing for, often without warning. That isn't a flaw in your character; it's grief and longing showing up. Some things that people find helpful: - Give yourself permission to feel it privately before responding. A short message like 'So happy for you' is enough at first. - It's okay to skip or leave early from baby showers or godh bharai if you need to. You can send a gift and warm wishes. - Mute or step back from social media for a while if feeds keep catching you off guard. - Tell one trusted person how you feel, so you're not carrying it alone. If the sadness lingers most days, affects sleep, work or appetite, or you start feeling hopeless, please talk to a doctor or a counsellor. If you ever have thoughts of harming yourself, seek urgent help from a doctor or a mental-health helpline straight away.
