We had a miscarriage. How long should we wait before trying again?

It happened at 8 weeks. We're heartbroken and unsure whether we should try again soon or wait.

I'm so sorry — what you're feeling is real grief, and there's no 'right' pace for it. Medically, many doctors say you can try again once you've had a normal period and feel physically and emotionally ready, though some advise waiting a little longer depending on your situation; ask your own doctor, who knows your history. See a doctor urgently for very heavy bleeding, fever, or severe pain after a miscarriage. Most women who have one miscarriage go on to have a healthy pregnancy. If you've had two or more losses, ask for an evaluation for recurrent pregnancy loss. Take time to grieve together, and consider counselling or a support group — this space is here for you too.
