What should we ask and carry for our first fertility consultation?
We have our first appointment with a fertility specialist next week. I'm worried we'll freeze up and forget to ask the important things. What should we prepare?

Preparation makes the first visit far more useful. Carry every old report in date order: blood tests (thyroid, prolactin, AMH, sugar), scans, any tube test, both partners' semen analysis, and prescriptions from earlier treatment. Note your cycle lengths for the last few months, how long you've been trying, past pregnancies or losses, surgeries, and any long-term illness or regular medicines for both of you. Useful questions to ask: - What do you think is the most likely reason for the delay, and what tests are still needed? - What are our options, from simplest to most involved, and why do you recommend one over another? - For our age and reports, what are realistic chances per cycle with each option? - What does the full plan cost, and what is not included? - How many attempts would you suggest before changing approach? - Who do we contact if we have a problem between visits? It's fine to write the answers down or ask if you can record a summary. A good first consultation should leave you understanding the plan, not feeling rushed into it. If anything is unclear, ask again; you are allowed to take time to decide.
