Should we choose an IVF 'package' or pay per cycle? What questions should we ask?

Farah7h ago

One centre offered a single package price and another gave a per-cycle quote. The package looks simpler but I'm not sure what it really covers.

Centres price IVF in different ways, so comparing quotes takes some care. A package usually bundles a defined set of services for one price, while per-cycle or itemised pricing charges for each step as it happens. Neither is automatically better; it depends on what's included and on your likely needs. Key questions to ask about any quote: - Which consultations, scans and blood tests are included? - Are stimulation medicines included, and is there a cap on doses? Medicines can be a large part of the cost and vary with your response. - Are ICSI, embryo freezing, the first year of storage and a frozen transfer included? - What is charged if the cycle is cancelled before retrieval, or if no embryos reach transfer? - Is anaesthesia included? Are there extra charges for weekend procedures? - Are any add-on tests or procedures included, and are they actually recommended for you? Also check whether a refund or credit applies to unused parts of a package. Get every answer in writing, as a signed estimate. The cheapest quote is not always the best value, and the most expensive is not necessarily higher quality. Discuss with your doctor which steps you are likely to need based on your tests, and compare quotes on that basis.
